Our history

The group started on the 5th august 1995; With a grant of £500 from Lambeth borough council. The group was open to families from Lambeth and the surrounding areas.

Topics of Discussion

Initially a grant of £1,000 was promised, unfortunately they did not step up to the mark. This left us with dissatisfied, underpaid workers and with much re-scheduling. We had a really good bunch of families, some of which are still with us to date.
Topic One
After that knock back, the group went through a time, where we did not apply for any funding, choosing to go on local, free trips, making it easier for planning and also less of a financial burden for the families. Cheap enjoyable outings were the order of the day!
Topic Two

This meant a lot of office hours. Telephone calls, e-mails, letters and word of mouth, to inform members what the group was up to. So to re-awaken interest in the group, two vital outings were planned to confirm that the group was still needed. Interest and feedback was astounding!

Topic Three
One outing was to Brighton by train. This was hugely popular costing £10 per adults ticket and £1 for each child. It was really a cheap day out! The other outing was to Drusilla park to celebrate the groups 10th year. This was thanks to Lambeth endowed charities, who provided us with part funds to hire a coach. Another success! Another outing was a London sightseeing tour and river trip. Real Life We set off at 09:31am and returned after 22:00pm that night! Everyone enjoyed themselves.

What This Means
Since 2005, the group has continued to do small informal outings and group meetings; For example, lunches, informal talks, and joint outings with another local group. So the group is still needed and do remember we are still here!
